Fibre optics

Fibre optics is an important type of communication cable consisting of several optical fibres used for data transmission. This data is transmitted in the form of light pulses that pass through tiny glass tubes.

There are single-mode and multi-mode fibre optics cables. Single-mode fibre optics cables have a smaller core and can only propagate one light beam at a time over long distances. Multi-mode fibre optics cables have a larger core that can carry several rays of light at a time over shorter distances.

Fibre optics cables are more efficient than copper cables. They can deliver the same types of signals, but with a wider band and at faster speeds and higher frequencies.

Copper wiring (also known as twisted pair)

Twisted pair is a type of computer cabling in which two conductors of the same circuit are twisted together. This provides protection against crosstalk. There are shielded (STP) and unshielded (UTP) twisted pair cables. Shielded (STP) cables have metal foil wrapped inside each pair of wires. This gives them a higher noise resistance than unshielded twisted pairs.

Wireless

Wireless technologies have advanced exponentially in recent years, with WiFi, in particular, becoming increasingly sophisticated and indispensable. WiFi allows computerized devices such as computers and smartphones to be connected to the computer network via radio waves.
